Curtain Rod Hooks

Curtain rod hooks are an alternative to curtain rod brackets; they are usually smaller and less detailed. They direct attention to the curtain and the rod instead of to themselves; they have always been used as mere hanging instruments and not as decoration. However times have changed and our tastes have changed with them.

Today you find extremely elaborate curtain hooks too. People who want to keep the perforation and wall work to a minimum can use hooks instead of brackets for their curtain rods and still use highly decorative hooks. The trick with using hooks instead of brackets is in the curtain and rod’s weight. Remember a hook only has one area of support; brackets have two and even three screws which set them firmly against the wall. So make sure that the hooks you buy can handle the weight you want to put on them.

Sometimes people want to cover more than one window with the same curtains, a couple of windows separated by a one and a half, two foot wall can perfectly well be covered with the same curtains so they use a hook in the middle wall combined with brackets at the end. They look absolutely great and create a new contrast and elegant display combining both elements. The use of one curtain set to cover both windows will also save money and time and will look elegant and sober. The decoration of the middle wall will not be a problem because it will be closed and covered by the curtains.

Brackets are designed to be used with regular or thin rods; they do not look too good with thick massive rods or large heavy curtains. They are more the light flowing curtain type. Metal curtain hooks are your best option, wood hooks are not very strong, and they would work on small curtains, like a bathroom window or a hall window, places where you would not be handling the curtains much.

Metal hooks are special because you can find them in many designs that are not available in the bracket department, examples of this are hooks shaped like branches with leaves or flowers on them. Hooks are also made that will allow you to hang two curtains on a window instead of one. These are cool and elegant and used mostly in living and bed room areas.

 The bottom curtain is made of a light material which is translucent. These curtains you do not usually open, they let enough light through. The second curtain is made of heavy material and shuts the light out completely during the day. These curtains are used in windows which are visible from the next door building or from the street; they allow you enough light but block visibility into your home.

Curtain rod hooks can be used in many ways around the house, not only for curtains and rods; they can also be used to hang flower pots and any other things you want on your walls. Don’t worry if they were made for curtains, you may add another purpose in their life whenever you want, they won’t mind at all!
